Helping underrepresented and low-income students pursue the dream of higher education

In today’s competitive economy, some form of post- secondary education—whether a two- or four-year college degree or vocational/certification training—is critical to securing gainful employment, financial security, and ultimately achieving one’s career aspirations.

However, pursuing the dream of higher education has become increasingly challenging, and often underrepresented and low-income students are the most impacted. To help them overcome these challenges, high schools need to do whatever they can to ensure that young people are motivated to stay in school and on the path to higher education—regardless of the adversity they face.

In this way, high schools serve as a critical link in the pipeline of diverse candidates who graduate, pursue higher education and attain meaningful careers.

A win for schools as well as students

For many dedicated educators, improving students’ chances for success has become more than a professional obligation. Schools and school systems want to know they’ve given their students the very best chance of success in life by preparing and propelling them towards higher education.

We do too. For the past 23 years, Argelia Rodriguez has worked tirelessly with every DC public and charter high school in the Washington, D.C. area to help create a culture of success among young people in diverse and low-income communities.
